EU to Launch Flagship Green Cooperation Program, EUROCLIMA, in Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The European Union’s flagship program for green action in Latin America and the Caribbean (EUROCLIMA) will be launched at the Walker’s Reserve on Wednesday.

EUROCLiWalkers Reserve, is the site of one of the largest ecological regenerative projects in the region, which involves the transformation of a sand extraction mining quarry into a natural reserve and living laboratory for climate resilience.

The EU said that EUROCLIMA will be the main vehicle for green cooperation under its Green Deal in the region. It will also build awareness and support green transition in the region. The launch signals the start of implementation of the action in the Caribbean.

The objective of EUROCLIMA is to reduce the impact of climate change and its effects in Latin America by fostering climate mitigation, adaptation, resilience and investment.

The launch will be attended by the Assistant Secretary General of CARICOM, Jeremy Cox;, St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture, Carlos James and St. Lucia’s Minister of Education and Sustainable Development, Shawn Edward.

The EU said that there would also be wide representation from regional and international organizations, including CARICOM, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and United Nations agencies.
