ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – One of Grenada’s largest credit unions, Monday confirmed that it had become a victim of a cyber-attack, but sought to assure customers that their deposits “remain secure”.
In a statement, Ariza Credit Union, with an asset base of just over EC$580 million (One EC dollar=US$0.37 cents) said that on Sunday, “our computerized systems experiences a cyber attack.
“As a precautionary measure, our systems are currently off line and will remain so on Monday, March 25, and Tuesday March 26. This means that in branch systems, ATMs, online services and Point of Sale will be unavailable at all locations and inaccessible online,” the credit union said.
It said that while it understands the importance of these services to its customers “we are prioritizing efforts to swiftly restore normal operations” and apologizes “for any inconvenience this may cause”.
The credit union gave no details as to the scope of the cyber attack and whether or not a ransom had been demanded.
