BEACH NEWS: What causes erosion?

In order to fix a problem, it usually helps to know what causes it. This applies to coastal management, of course, particularly when the issue of erosion. In order to address coastal erosion, you need to know whats behind it since theres no single cause for sand moving away from your coastline.Erosion is like other Å“natural occurrences such as fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and more  it lands on our collective radar only when it begins to impact people and their property. When it happens out in the middle of nowhere, nobody notices. When it happens where people live and work, it gets noticed  a lot.So what causes erosion? Here are some of the agents, and what can be done about them:

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam welcomed more than 500 attendees to the Florida Energy Summit, hosted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, today through Friday. The three-day summit brings together leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss the changing landscape of the energy industry and the future of energy in Florida. “The 2012 Florida Energy Summit features a balanced program, including discussions on everything from traditional fuels to emerging technologies to energy efficiency,” said Commissioner Putnam.

 

– Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, distributed 1,700 book bags to students in District 2 during his 2012 Back-To-School Book Bag Giveaways. 

The back-to-school events were held on Saturday, August 4, at Gwen Cherry Park, 7090 NW 22nd Avenue, and on Sunday, August 5, at Oak Grove Park, 690 NE 159th Street.
