Officials Head to Haiti for Groundbreaking Ceremony

Mayor Tomas Regalado, Commissioner Richard P. Dunn II and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson will be part of a delegation from Miami that will head to Port au Prince Haiti this Friday to break ground for what may be the first building erected in Port au Prince since the January earthquake that devastated Haiti according to Mayor Jean Yves Jason, Mayor of Port au Prince.

In an effort to help Haiti, City of Miami Officials have embarked on a project with Miami’s Sister City, Port-au-Prince to establish an Emergency Operations / Community Center for the people of Port au Prince.

The building will be a 4,ooo sq. ft. structure designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane as well as a severe earthquake. The building will serve as a central command and control facility used for emergency or disaster management functions in emergency situations ensuring continuity of operation for the government of Port au Prince. When not being used as an emergency operations center, the building will be utilized as a community center.

Funds to finance this project are coming from private donations.
