In an effort to help Haiti, City of Miami Officials have embarked on a project with MiamiÃƒÆ’Ã†â€™Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â¢ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…Â¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â¬ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…Â¾Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â¢s Sister City, Port-au-Prince to establish an Emergency Operations / Community Center for the people of Port au Prince.
The building will be a 4,ooo sq. ft. structure designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane as well as a severe earthquake. The building will serve as a central command and control facility used for emergency or disaster management functions in emergency situations ensuring continuity of operation for the government of Port au Prince. When not being used as an emergency operations center, the building will be utilized as a community center.
Funds to finance this project are coming from private donations.
