An uplifting spirit of volunteerism has descended upon the Cayman Islands with the arrival this week of nearly 100 San Diego residents who are "doing something" for the people of the western Caribbean nation.

The volunteers, who are part of the California-based Miles Ahead organization - headed by Caribbean-American Miles McPherson, the former U.S. professional football player turned evangelist - are on island working alongside residents on community service initiatives, including school building, hospital and girls' home beautification projects as well as youth and prison outreach and medical health education seminars.

Local, regional and international golf clubs are being invited to participate in the signature tournament.
Susan Reichle, USAID's Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance, visited Haiti Wednesday through Friday this week to meet with key stakeholders to discuss the U.S. Government's ongoing transition from emergency response to reconstruction, continued deployment of mitigation efforts in advance of the rainy season, and plans for transitional shelter construction in the next few months.
