May 11, 2017: The opposition Free National Movement (FNM) led by Dr. Hubert Minnis are the unofficial winners of the 2017 Bahamas election. The FNM crushed the ruling Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) and Prime Minister Perry Christie last night in an election that saw the Bahamas following the trend that’s occurred at polls in the English-speaking Caribbean recently where voters have ousted the incumbents in Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Guyana, Montserrat and nearby Turks and Caicos.
A Caribbean national can now claim to be the world’s oldest person. Jamaican Violet Brown, 117, was born Mar. 10, 1900. She may have inherited the title following the death of Emma Morano, an Italian who died last month at age 117 years and 137 days.
Parish Queens to be Crowned in May.  The journey towards crowning the 2017 Miss Jamaica Festival Queen heats up with parish level coronations, which will be held throughout the month of May. A signature programme of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen parish coronations will see intelligent, culturally-aware, poised and empowered women who are seeking a platform to make their contributions to nation building, compete to represent their parish at the national coronation in August.

Mar. 28, 2017: The French Caribbean Collectivite of Saint Martin has a new President. Daniel Gibbs on Sunday night became the island’s President-elect after his party, Team Daniel Gibbs 2017 captured 5,696 votes in second round voting in the island’s territorial council election.
