The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the coronavirus, a worldwide pandemic, and you will die if you have contact with anyone who is carrying the virus. This is a highly contagious strain of the coronavirus, (COVID 19) and starts with flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. This virus is spread by coughing, sneezing, shaking hands or touching a contaminated object.
In no way am I dismissing the critical threat of the virus, because without treatment any individual will die. But when an entire country and specific parts in the world are shut down, there is a possibility that our leaders have over reacted. Germ/disease warfare is a major challenge, and everyone is impacted, but when is too far – too far.
Bringing America to its knees is not the way to win against germ/disease warfare, and anticipating the worse outcomes in the country and the world, we will surly lose. During flu season there are millions of Americans who are infected with the flu. This year during the US flu season, 38 million were infected with the flu, 390,000 hospitalized, and 23,000 died according to the CDC. When you come in contact with someone who has the flu, you take a chance of getting sick.
With the coronavirus only 350 people have died, and 35,000 are infected with the virus. This strain appears to be treatable, and 98% of the patients with the virus will survive. In no way am I dismissing the seriousness of the virus, but America should be able to open up the country after the 14 days of self-imposed-quarantine, with certain precautions.
After self-imposed quarantined for 14 days, anyone sick, should stay at home, and remain quarantined. For the next 10 to 14 days companies, schools, workers, public civic interactions should be monitored by Americans having their temperatures taken when in contact with the public. Anyone with a temperature should not be allowed in a public location or event, because it is an indication or a pre-requisite of the virus.
Most Americas have self-imposed quarantined themselves for the last week and a half, and it is time to move forward, and open up the country. Compared to the flu the coronavirus can be treated with fluids, rest, and antiviral medicines. Americans should also see a flattening of the curve with the pandemic coronavirus.
There is no immediate solution to this worldwide pandemic, but the economy will be devastated if people are not allowed to work. Opening back up America must be done slowly and deliberately, with special care given in different hot spots.
State, county, and local leaders and health authorities will determine which areas are able to open up first, based on the degree of infected cases. The areas of high infection should open extremely slower with no new cases of the virus. It will be very difficult to re-open America but it must be done. Working together America can do anything.
