Rep. Mucarsel-Powell Must Recuse Herself from Impeachment Matters Due to Conflict of Interest

MIAMI, FL  - While Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell sits on the House Judiciary Committee that is holding impeachment hearings this week, she tries to hide her family's conflict of interest after taking more than $700,000 from Ihor Kolomoyskyi, a Ukrainian oligarch who is under FBI investigation for ordering contract killings, money laundering, embezzlement, bribery, and corruption in Ukraine.

In fact, Kolomoyskyi was recently cited by former US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch in her sworn testimony at the impeachment hearing.

Rep. Mucarsel-Powell's involvement in the impeachment hearings is a direct conflict of interest which makes a mockery of the process. Mucarsel-Powell must immediately recuse herself from all impeachment related matters and House leaders must take action to eliminate this egregious conflict of interest which taints the integrity and legitimacy of our political process.

Moreover, Mucarsel-Powell and her husband should be questioned under oath to determine what they know about Kolomoyskyi's crimes, corruption, and political interference.

Miami Young Republicans president Armando Ibarra issued the following statement:

"The American people and Rep. Mucarsel-Powell's constituents demand answers to grave questions about her family's knowledge and role in Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi's crimes, corruption, and influence peddling. Her continued participation in the impeachment hearings is a conflict of interest and she must immediately recuse herself from all impeachment matters. House Democrat leadership's inaction to correct this conflict of interest proves that impeachment is a partisan witch hunt completely lacking in integrity."
