To kick off the celebration, the Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, hosted aLionfish eradication dive where they explained the importance of controlling the lionfish population in the Caribbean to help protect the reef. This dive happened at various Sandals Resorts throughout the Caribbean as part of the brand’s overall effort to reduce the lionfish population through education and eradication.
Following the Lionfish Hunt Dive, Sandals Foundation hosted its Lionfish Lime & Luncheon at Grand Anse Beach. At the luncheon in partnership with Grenada Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Environment and Grenada Chapter of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network, Sandals’ guests and Grenada’s locals joined together to be educated on the invasive lionfish species and how the Caribbean is working together to preserve marine life. Throughout the event, there were Lionfish cooking demonstrations, free PADI goodies, and live videos to shine light on these important efforts.
