MIAMI – The Board of County Commissioners on May 19 approved Commissioner Joe Martinez’s resolution directing the Mayor to allow outdoor seating at restaurants in the Unincorporated Municipal Service Area (UMSA). This resolution includes uncovered outdoor seating and seating under a tent or canopy as a temporary use unless such seating would impose an immediate risk to human health.

EATThis resolution ensures that the outdoor seating area provide appropriate social distancing, satisfies standard building and safety regulations, does not interfere with pedestrian or vehicular ingress and egress, does not detrimentally impact surrounding uses or properties, and would permit restaurants to be in compliance with the mandated rated capacity allowed set forth by Miami-Dade County.

“This resolution is designed to not only open up our economy and help those businesses, but also provides an outlet for our residents to go out and enjoy themselves.  Many small restaurants will not be able to open their doors and survive at a reduced occupancy requirement so for those restaurants who choose to exercise this option, this will allow their survivability,” stated Commissioner Martinez.
