One of my favorites was bulla. I loved bulla because it, like the other baked goods, is spicy and filling. It is also cake-like and is the size of the palm of your hand.
Bulla is it usually paired with avocado or cheese or butter or just by itself. Here’s my recipe:
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons ginger powder
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 pound wet sugar or dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 3/4 cup water
Mix all dry ingredients together. Add water and melted butter.
Put mixture in a well-floured board and roll the mixture to half inch thickness. Put enough water to combine all ingredients.
Cut the mixture into circles. Place on a lightly greased and floured baking sheet.
Bake at 400 degrees for roughly 20 minutes.
