This major obstacle came to Commissioner Levine Cava’s attention when a group of residents tried to establish a recycling program in the Shores community in Cutler Bay. “This townhome community, even though it was built to code, was not designed to provide recycling opportunities,” explained Commissioner Levine Cava. “These residents were determined to find a way to recycle, and with the support of our Solid Waste Department, we’re now piloting a solution. But it wasn’t easy to figure out.”
The ordinance adopted on Nov. 8 corrects more than a dozen zoning categories that will now require future developments to include space for the storage and transport of recyclable materials as part of the plans.
