In honor of National Arbor Day, the City of Miami held a tree planting in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood on April 30th, 2010. Mayor Tomas Regalado, District 4 Commissioner Francis Suarez, joined by members of Miami’s Consular Corps community including the Consuls General of Spain, Germany, Dominican Republic, Monaco, and Ecuador launched the Arbor Day Celebration. “Arbor Day was a beautiful opportunity for the City to engage its partners to increase the tree canopy thereby increasing the resident’s quality of life.” Commissioner Francis Suarez
The Broward County Construction Management Division has announced that the Broward County Environmental Monitoring Laboratory has achieved the highly sought after U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver certification. The laboratory is Florida's first LEED certified environmental laboratory and Broward County's second LEED certified building.
Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense program to promote Fix a Leak Week, March 15–21. Each year, more than one trillion gallons of water is wasted in U.S. homes, and Fix a Leak Week serves as a reminder to check for leaks in your plumbing and irrigation systems. “We want to help consumers save money on their utility bills and save precious water supplies at the same time,” said PSC Chairman Nancy Argenziano. “Leaks at home can add up to more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year–that’s enough to fill a backyard swimming pool!”
