The daylong event, which was held in partnership with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, featured several panel discussions on various topics dealing with resiliency – including sea level rise, affordable housing, workforce training, infrastructure hardening, renewable energy and the SMART Plan to improve public transportation.
Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Esteban Bovo Jr., who delivered the morning keynote address, stressed the importance of enhancing mobility through the SMART Plan as a key component to ensuring a sustainable future.
“Transportation and the SMART Plan are central to resiliency,” Chairman Bovo said, adding that building along public transportation corridors will reduce environmental pressures and improve the county’s ability to meet future workforce housing needs. “We have a fiduciary responsibility to our children to leave Miami-Dade County a better place. If we get it right, we can make sure it’s resilient not only for our children but also for our children’s children.”
