Kendrick Meek will visit the frontline of Health Care Reform and tour the Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI) on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. He will be accompanied by Colonel Brodes Hartley, President of CHI.
Torrential downpours in South Florida have caused flooding issues throughout Miami-Dade’s District 12, particularly in the Doral and Sweetwater areas. Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz spent the morning of May 24, 2012 touring both areas and determining the neighborhoods and streets most affected by flooding. The commissioner is working with officials in both cities to alleviate the situation on municipal roads. On Wednesday, pumps had been placed by the City of Doral near NW 77th Court and 35th Street until 1:30 a.m., pumping water into a nearby canal.
Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter will serve on the Florida Counties Foundation (FCF) Board for the 2010-2012 term. She will also participate on the Curriculum Review Committee, the group that updates courses for Florida's elected officials, including the Certified County Commissioner Program (CCC) and the Advanced County Commissioner (ACC) education program.
There is no doubt that the road to today's Election Day has been paved with many obstacles, but voters of District 5 have the right to elect the candidate of their choice and whoever is elected should be respected and that message should resonate all the way to the Governor’s Office in Tallahassee. I feel confident that the voters will choose the right candidate to represent them at City Hall.
Today Governor Scott signed two bills to protect vulnerable women and children throughout Florida. The laws will impose tougher penalties for human trafficking criminals and provide more support for commercially exploited children. House Bill 99 provides that children who have been sexually exploited should be treated as victims. The bill also allows the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to coordinate with community partners to designate short-term safe houses to provide services to this population.
