United States Senate Democratic Candidate, Pam Keith, has been listed by Legacy Miami Magazine as one of “South Florida’s 50 Most Powerful and Influential Black Professionals in Business and Industry” for 2016. She is featured in the May 9th Miami Herald issue in the Miami Legacy Power Issue Section.
State Representative Raises Awareness of Gun Violence in Miami-Dade.  State Representative Kionne McGhee will accompany the mother of Noricia Talabert to the South Dade High School senior prom this evening in her daughter’s honor. Talabert was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Miami-Dade County last fall and was set to graduate this Spring.
Senator Anitere Flores (R-FL) was recently endorsed by the Florida Professional Firefighters Association in her campaign for State Senate. The Florida Professional Firefighters is a State Association chartered by the International Association of Firefighters, which is comprised of 150 local affiliates and councils totaling over 24,000 firefighters and emergency service personnel.
Today, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved by a 7-3 vote an anti-discrimination resolution <http://www.miamidade.gov/govaction/matter.asp?matter=160879&file=true&yearFolder=Y2016> presented by Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava. The item calls for county leadership to actively recruit organizations and businesses that have boycotted North Carolina and Mississippi due to their recently passed discriminatory laws against LGBT people. The resolution also directs the mayor to study the feasibility of a ban on official county travel to both states. County staff will also work with the Commissioner to determine what limitations to purchasing goods and services from those states can also be implemented. The administration has 90 days to complete the report.
