The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Tides and Currents data predicts that the South East Florida Region will experience unusually high tides again this fall. Tides are predicted to be at their highest on November 3rd through November 6th, November 15th, and December 3rd through December 6th.  These high tide events are expected to be 7’’ to 10” above the average high tides for 2013 during these dates (see chart below). Tidal fluctuations are a natural occurrence and typically go unnoticed. However extreme tide events such as these can potentially impact drainage systems and may cause flooding in low lying areas.

It took one goal from Jamaica’s ace forward Khadija Shaw in the 13th minute to cop the title of the 2013 CFU Women’s Under 20 Tournament championship, when Jamaica defeated Trinidad & Tobago1-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday, October 27, before over four thousand spectators.

Jamaica is the first team to win this trophy and will hold this title for the next two years while both teams will go on to contest the CONCACAF Under-20 finals in the Cayman Islands next January.

After scoring their first goal, the Reggae Girlz made several attempts to double the score but were prevented from doing so by the Soca Warriors who desperately tried to keep them at bay while taking their chances to level the score.

Despite the strong efforts of both teams the score remained 1-0 at full time with the result in favour of Jamaica. Meanwhile, in the third place play-off between Dominican Republic and Cuba it was the Dominican Republic’s Yaqueisa Alexander Nunez Soriano’s double strike which propelled her team into taking the honours, when they defeated Cuba 2-1 in an evenly contested game.

It was the Dominican Republic who went ahead as early as in the 4th minute with a goal from Yaqueisa Alexander Nunez Soriano. In the 44th minute Cuba’s Yoanna Calderon Gonzanez scored the equalizing goal to end the first half 1-1.

Both teams came out in the second half searching for the clincher but it was Dominican Republic’s Yaqueisa Alexander Nunez Soriano who scored her second goal in the 48th minute. That goal, which made the score 2-1, turned out to be the final score.
