Aristide Heads Back To Haiti

Twice-exiled former president of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, is on his way back to the homeland he left behind seven years ago.

On Tuesday morning, March 15, three Miami-Dade County Teen Court Volunteers were appointed to the new Miami-Dade County Youth Commission. The ceremony took place at the Board of County Commissioners Chambers where all the County Commissioners were present. Each commissioner appointed a student representing a secondary school in his or her district. To be qualified, students had to be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, have a minimum 2.0 grade point average, demonstrate a sincere interest and motivation to work for the community and have a background in community-based activities.

The 40 registered nurses enrolled in Broward College's new "RN to BSN" (Registered Nurse to Bachelor's of Science in Nursing) program have a variety of backgrounds and are employed in emergency rooms, hospice, pediatrics, critical care, and more. Several are recent graduates, while others have up to 20 years of experience in the field.

Meeting Workforce Needs

What they all share is a desire to take their education and career to another level and to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing. On April 7 an inaugural celebration for the students was held on Broward College's A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie.
