The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County recognizes March 10, 2014 as National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The goal of this day is to offer support and hope, reduce the stigma of HIV/AIDS, and empower women and girls to embrace the theme, “Share Knowledge. Take Action.”

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is an annual, nationwide observance to raise awareness of the increasing impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Families, health organizations, businesses, communities, the government and individuals come together to provide support, encourage discussion and educate women and girls about the importance of getting tested and knowing their status.

Community Health of South Florida Inc. (CHI) will host a Grand Opening Celebration on Tuesday March 4th from 12 to 3pm at its new Tavernier Health Center in the Tavernier Towne Shopping Center, 91200 Overseas Highway #17 Tavernier, FL 33070.  

The federally qualified health center/non-profit company decided to open this facility after identifying a great need for quality, affordable and convenient medical care in the Upper Keys.

Grant-ArvelTraining health professionals across the Caribbean, with the aim of eliminating avoidable blindness by 2020, remains among the top priorities of the regional organization Caribbean Council for the Blind (CCB).

According to CCB Chief Executive Officer Arvel Grant, while significant progress has been made since the Caribbean launch of Vision 2020 in July 2000, training programs must be expanded to meet the organization’s objectives.
