On March 15, 2010 Publix Pharmacies launched the first phase of a new diabetes management system. The program is a multi-faceted program established to assist customers and associates living with diabetes in managing their medication, compliance, monitoring, education, nutrition and exercise. In its first phase, this one-of-a-kind program offers diabetic patients free medication, online resources and the benefit of knowledgeable pharmacists. At the core of the program is the free generic immediate-release metformin (500 mg, 850 mg or 1,000 mg) the generic form of the drug Glucophage.
Conference provides free venue for HIV stakeholders in the Caribbean to network and to hear from some of the most well-respected names in HIV.  Distinguished experts, public officials, and HIV community members will come together at the 2011 Caribbean HIV Conference (November 18-21) to focus on HIV in the Caribbean, where adult HIV prevalence is higher than in any region in the world outside of Sub-Saharan Africa (UNAIDS 2010 Global Report). The Federal Government Takes Action on Radon Gas to Prevent Lung Cancer Deaths in 2011. October 17th, 24th is Radon Awareness Week October 17-24 is Federal Radon Action Week according to The Surgeon General. Health agencies throughout the United States have joined forces to promote awareness of the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers. The American Lung Association, Centers for Disease Control, and National Cancer Institute all agree that radon is a National health problem and encourage radon testing during the October awareness drive.
With the aim of becoming a local leader in the national fight against obesity, the Miami-Dade County Health Department (MDCHD) has launched a comprehensive initiative to inform communities and constituents of the grave health-related conditions caused by the lack of proper nutrition and physical activity. Supported by the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) nationwide program, Miami-Dade County will be taking on its own fight against this health hazard, inspiring the people of its community to help bring legislative changes affecting the wellbeing of their children and of the entire constituency.
