The ten-week program features a variety of high caliber arts classes and a professional speaker series to inspire young artists. This year a “civic engagement” component will offer students a broader context for creative expression. At the end of the intense and transformative training, students exhibit their work and perform in recitals. Applications are being accepted through June 22, 2018. Space is limited. Tuition is $500 for the ten-week program. Discounts and payment plans are available.
Known as a premier arts training institution, the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center is nationally-recognized for developing hundreds of outstanding artists in all arts disciplines over the last thirty-four years through its arts academies. The Center is also recognized as the artistic home of alumnus Tarell Alvin McCraney, co-creator of the Academy Award-winning movie “Moonlight”. Other distinguished and notable alumni include Robert Battle, Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Keenan D. Washington and Fergie L. Philippe, US Tour cast members of Hamilton the musical; Bianca Brewton, professional dancer (Beyoncé and Bruno Mars); Shareef Clayton, Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter (Arturo Sandoval and Stevie Wonder); and tap dancer Marshall Davis, Jr., associate choreographer of the Tony-nominated play, Shuffle Along.
