Social Security in the United States said it is committed to treating all Americans fairly. This extends to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people covered by Social Security programs. The U.S. recognizes same-sex couples’ marriages in all states, and some non-marital legal relationships, for purposes of determining entitlement to Social Security benefits, Medicare entitlement, and eligibility and payment amount for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Some 20,000 Jamaicans have been deported from the United States over the past 10 years, according to Jamaica’s Ambassador to the U.S. Audrey Marks.
