Miami-Dade County will host a Disparity Study update meeting in District 2 on Friday, July 12, 2013, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the NFL YET Center at 7090 NW 22nd Ave.
The purpose of the meeting is to inform local businesses about the status of the Countyâ€™s Disparity Study, which will determine if minority and women-owned business enterprises have had equal access to the Countyâ€™s contracting opportunities. All local firms are invited and lunch will be served.
Small Business Development (SBD), under the Business Affairs Division of the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER), will host a forum on Preparing your Business for a Disaster on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Stephen P. Clark Center, located at 111 NW 1st Street, 19th Floor Main conference room, in Miami.
Participants will receive key tools and information to help them prepare for a disaster. They will be provided resources to assist businesses before and after any disaster.
Hurricane season begins this month. The United States Health and Human Services Secretary recently issued the following steps you can take to keep you and your family safe:
- Discuss with your family what you will do if you need to evacuate. Where will you meet? What will you take with you? How will you check in so that youâ€™ll know who is okay and who isnâ€™t?
- If you have a pet, make a plan for your pet if you have to evacuate.
The Miami-Dade County Cooperative Extension Florida Yards & Neighborhoods program will host a free class onâ€œWhy Landscapes Failâ€ on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at South Miami Library Branch located at 6000 Sunset Drive, South Miami, FL 33143.
Extension Agent Guillermo Salazar the Countyâ€™s Florida Yards & Neighborhood program administrator will teach the Doâ€™s and Donâ€™ts of Florida gardening along with Florida Friendly landscape techniques, understanding the most common landscape failures, why they occur and how to prevent them.
