Texting while driving is now against the law in Florida. Late last month Governor Rick Scott signed into law the legislation which bans the use of wireless communications devices while at the wheel of a motor vehicle on the stateâ€™s roads.

Miami Dade Collegeâ€™s Homestead Campus will partner Miami-Dade County Commissioner and MDC alumna Lynda Bell to host the â€œSouth Dade Community Job Fairâ€ from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 5 in buildings D and G at the campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Fireworks Spectacular Show beginning at 9 p.m.
Celebrate the nationâ€™s birthday with an all-American day at the park followed by a spectacular fireworks display, onThursday, July 4, 2013, at Black Point Park and Marina, 24775 SW 87th Avenue, in Cutler Bay. Admission is free.
Enjoy the great outdoors while exploring the parkâ€™s bikeways, scenic jogging trails, or 1.5 mile long jetty into the Bay where fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to cast from shore. Grab a delicious bite to eat and raise a glass to Old Glory at the dockside restaurant and bar; or bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a family picnic. The day culminates with a spectacular waterfront fireworks show starting at 9 p.m.
County program offers homeowners valuable services at no cost
Homeowners who reside in single-family residences may qualify for a unique program that will allow them to have the exterior of their home painted and/or accordion hurricane shutters installed. The Paint and Shutter Program is funded through Surtax dollars and is available through the Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD).
Homeowners will be required to participate in a forgivable mortgage program which requires them to remain in the home for up to 10 years after the upgrades have been completed. Participation in the program is subject to the availability of funds. Applications will be processed on a first come first served basis.
Maryell Epps and Piccolo kick-off music festivals in Historic Overtown
In celebration of Black Music Month, New Washington Heights will partner with the Southeast Overtown/ Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPW CRA) and City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones to host the Folk Life Fridays in the Village music festival on Friday, June 21st at the 9th Street Pedestrian Mall in Overtown.
Folk Life Fridays, which serves as a cultural tourist attraction, is an open-air market with live music, arts and crafts, and tasty cuisine designed to promote the culture and heritage of the historic Overtown community. Acclaimed jazz singer Maryell Epps, Miami-based rapper Piccolo and other local acts will provide live entertainment.
