County and local developers showcase energy efficient homes in central County
In an effort to provide energy efficient and affordable housing for individuals and families of low, moderate and middle income, the Broward County Housing Finance and Community Development Division has worked with two local developers to construct 21 energy efficient homes in the central County neighborhoods of Roosevelt Gardens and Washington Park. The approximate $3.7 million cost is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developmentâ€™s Disaster Recovery Initiative (DRI).
An Open House will be held Saturday, August 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to unveil five model homes, located at 1502, 1507 and 1508 N.W. 27 Ave. (Roosevelt Gardens) and 2954 N.W. Ninth St. and 2903 N.W. Ninth Place (Washington Park). Two local builders, Access Builders and Inner Urban Asset Management, are constructing the homes, most of which feature three bedrooms, two baths and two-car garages. Three models have a fourth bedroom including a barrier-free one.
Entertainment for the entire family, including live steel pan music, will highlight a celebration of the 51st anniversary of Independence by Trinidad and Tobago this month in South Florida.
The T&T Citizens Association of Palm Beach will stage the event starting 1 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Phi Delta Kappa Club, 5060 S. Haverhill Rd. in Lake Worth.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr. will join the Gus Machado Family Foundation and State Senator Rene Garcia in presenting the fourth annual Gus Machado Ford Community & Back to School Fair on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Gus Machado Ford, 1200 W. 49th St. in Hialeah.
The first 100 children who register the day of the event will receive a school book bag filled with school supplies, donated by the Gus Machado Family Foundation. All children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult family member.
