FYI

The expectantly awaited year 2012 was an exceptional one for our country as we unabashedly “gave thanks” for Jamaica’s extraordinary journey on the domestic and international stage, thus far.  We felt doubly blessed by the privilege of celebrating half a century of political Independence and for the opportunity to showcase the brilliant achievements of the people of our beautiful Caribbean island as a, “Nation on a Mission”.

Our Government and people rose magnificently to the occasion at home and equally so abroad. Without a doubt, the Diaspora unified in all our communities in every geographic location to commemorate the historic milestone and mark longstanding collaborative relationships and friendships at the people to people, civil society and State levels.  That we also enjoyed superlative promotion of “Brand Jamaica” through the phenomenal performance of our Jamaican Olympians, building on the legacy of the forerunners in sports and athletics, was an additional golden gift.

Under the Distinguished Patronage of, the Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency, Stephen C. Vasciannie, the David Hunt Fundraising Committee members in Washington DC will host a "Jamaican Inaugural Ball" honoring and celebrating President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's second inauguration.  This formal event will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Elegant Atrium of the National Education Association (NEA) building, located at 1201 16th Street NW, Washington DC 20036, from 8:00 PM - 12:00 AM.

Miami Gardens, FL - October 30, 2012- The St Thomas University Institute for Communication, Entertainment and Media, Kreyol Nation, and the Center for Justice and Peace are proud to announce A Night of Hope – an evening featuring the on-campus premier of the faculty/student produced documentary Blooming Hope on Saturday December 1, 6:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas University School of Law Moot Court Room. The documentary depicts three long-term sustainable development projects in the Northwest Department of Haiti.

To create the film, Communication Arts professor Dr. Marcela Moyano and her students traveled to the Northwest Department of Haiti to capture the untold tales of Haiti’s rich culture. The film depicts Elicoeur Beaubrum, a coffee farmer-leader from the town of Ma Wouj, Tata Dumasie, an artisan craftswoman from Jean Rabel, and school children from the remote seaside village of Baie-de-Henne. The film highlights both the struggles and the promise of Haiti’s Northwest, and the process - from conception through implementation - of these three community-initiated, sustainable development projects.
