State-of-the-art technology will enhance "real-time" passenger information

On January 28, the Broward County Commission voted to move forward with implementation of a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) system for Broward County Transit (BCT).

The new CAD/AVL system will allow operations dispatchers to better manage fixed-route and community buses and the planned “WAVE” modern streetcar system. It will also provide ”real-time” bus arrival and departure information through passenger advisory signs, websites, text messaging and mobile phone applications.

Public invited to how-to workshops on health care basics and enrollment

sheridanNeed information on your health care insurance options for 2014? Broward County Libraries will host a series of free Affordable Care Act workshops, presented by the League of Women Voters of Broward County and AARP.

The workshops will run from February 17 to March 5 at Broward County Library locations throughout the county. Each includes a PowerPoint presentation, informational hand-outs and a Q&A session. All workshops are free and open to the public.

Broward County's new courthouse was featured this week in Mayor Barbara Sharief's "Broward Means Business" Moment at the beginning of the February 4 County Commission meeting.

The 20-story building was "topped off" with interior work following suit from the ground floor up, giving shape and form to the future state-of-the-art and future LEED-certified building. The 714,000 square foot structure is one of the largest courthouses in the U.S.
