The Vice Mayor of the City of Miramar, Alexandra Davis, and The Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark will host a reception to kick off the Legacy of Marcus Garvey Exhibition in Ansin Family Art Gallery on Friday, February 7 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. On exhibit for the month of February, the exhibition celebrates Garvey’s lifelong contributions. The reception also will serve as the kick-off event for the free Black History Month Celebratory Event on Saturday, February 8.

During the reception, Miramar Vice Mayor Alexandra Davis will honor the following people for their contributions to the arts: Rodney Baltimore, Hot 105 – Cox Radio; Eddy Edwards, Riddims Marketing, Inc.; Neil Hall, The Urban Collective; Babacar M’bow, Multitudes Contemporary Art Gallery; Jimmy Moise, Le P’ti Club; and Jacqueline Shaw, Sunshine Theater.

Enjoy a romantic and relaxing Bay Cruise that departs from the Deering Estate at Cutler on Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Guests are asked to arrive at 1:30 pm.

Discover South Florida’s nature and history aboard the “Pelican Island Skipper” Pontoon Boat, a 45 foot Corinthian Catamaran. A Deering Estate Education and Interpretive staff member will talk about birds, sea mammals, Native Americans, and early pioneers.

The sights, sounds and flavors of Asia return to the Fruit & Spice Park for the 25th annual Asian Culture Festival on March 1 and 2, 2014 from 10 am to 6 pm. The Fruit & Spice Park is located at 24801 SW 187 Avenue.

The Asian Culture Festival is a fun-filled family event that offers a virtual day trip to Asia. Festival-goers will enjoy a variety of Asian arts, crafts, entertainment, plants and exotic cuisine. Events include a Malaysian no-hands volleyball tournament known as Sepak Takraw, Chinese Lion Dances, a Dragon Boat display, Japanese Taiko drummers and demonstrations of fruit and vegetable carving.

Miramar’s Recreational-Soccer League 2014 is an instructional soccer program for 4-12 yr old. The main priority of the program is to teach the basic fundamentals of soccer through fun games. The program is 10 weeks and any missed day will be added towards the end. You can register at Vizcaya Park 14200 SW 55 Street

Cost for Miramar residents is $45 and $52 for Non-Residents. Registration includes a jersey. All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate & proof of residency to registration. Money orders preferred, cash will not be accepted. The practice and games will be held on Wednesday and Friday nights. February 26th is the first day of practice at 6:30pm.
