BROWARD COUNTY, FL - April is Water Conservation Month, and the Broward Water Partnership is educating residents about the importance of saving this precious resource with an effort to reward those whose friends participate in a rebate program. Anyone who has already received a rebate for trading a water-guzzling toilet for a WaterSense® High Efficiency model or is in the application process, can win an extra $100 by convincing five friends to take advantage of the program. All rebates must be processed and completed by April 30, 2017.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Transit (BCT) successfully held its 36th Annual Bus Safety Roadeo on Sunday, February 26th, at its West Copans Road facility in Pompano Beach. The local Bus Safety Roadeo is an annual skills and safety competition for BCT bus operators who volunteer to compete in various challenges. It assesses behind-the-wheel skills designed to test every phase of operations that a bus operator encounters during normal driving situations.

Miami, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (DOH-Miami-Dade) issued a rabies alert for the Kendall area. This is in response to a raccoon that tested positive on February 28, 2017. This is the first confirmed rabid animal this year in the county and first rabid raccoon identified in Miami-Dade since 2001. DOH-Miami-Dade has been working with Miami-Dade Animal Services to identify any individuals who might have been exposed to the animal. The recent rabies alert is for 60 days. BROWARD COUNTY, FL -- The first cruise ship to sail to Cuba from Broward County's Port Everglades since the 1950s departed this week on a 10-day cultural voyage to Havana and several other ports of call on the island. Pearl Seas Cruises has scheduled 11 cruises aboard the 210-passenger Pearl Mist from Port Everglades to Cuba through April 2017.

Despite our best efforts, we could not return some items because they lacked identification. The baggage consultant hired by the County has photographed and placed these unreturned items on a website. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President for Queens Library in New York City. The Queens Library serves 2.3 million people from 62 locations plus seven Adult Learning Centers and two Family Literacy Centers. It circulates among the highest numbers of books and other library materials in the country.
