Presentations by several of the United States most celebrated contemporary authors and some from the Caribbean diaspora will highlight the 28th edition of the Miami Book Fair International (MBFI), presented by Miami Dade College's (MDC) The Center @ MDC. The event kicks off Nov. 13 at the MDC's Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami, Florida. A few of the authors, such as Alan Cheuse and Peter Godwin, though not of African descent, have written about the black experience. Others, including award-winning artist and activist Harry Belafonte, as well as historian Nelson George, are prominent African Americans.

Cedella Marley, daughter of late reggae icon Bob Marley and talented artist in her own right, is among a host of celebrities scheduled to headline the inauguration of “The Soul of South Florida Book Expo this month in Fort Lauderdale. Marley will be joined by notable American actors such as Louis Gossett, Jr., an Academy Award winner, Isaiah Washington and Taye Diggs at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center.
Thunderous applause and a standing ovation from avid literary arts lovers cheered Jamaican writer Jean Lowrie-Chin on last night at the New York City launch of her book Soul dance at the corporate offices of Ruder Finn Inc in midtown Manhattan. The audience in the jam-packed room was riveted by the passionate and dynamic readings of some of Lowrie Chin's favorite poems and writings, some of which go back several years.
