"Crash" Wins Best Picture; beats out "Brokeback"

The biggest surprise of the evening was that “Crash” the tale of people of different races crashing into each other as they go about their daily lives in Los Angeles, beat out the gay cowboy love story “Brokeback Mountain” in the Best Picture race.

  • Foreign Film: "Tsotsi," South Africa.
  • Adapted Screenplay: Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, "Brokeback Mountain."
  • Original Screenplay: Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco, "Crash."
