Caribbean stars Rihanna, Nicki Minaj up for American Music Awards

nicki-minajTwo of the English-speaking Caribbean’s most popular female entertainers are among the nominees in several categories for the 39th annual American Music Awards.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Nicki Minaj and Barbadian Rihanna will find out if they have won during the live broadcast of the awards presentation on Nov. 20 on the United States television network ABC.

Minaj is nominated in the categories of “Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artiste” and “Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album” (Pink Friday). In the artiste category, she will compete with Lil Wayne and Kanye West. In the album category she faces Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV” and The Throne’s “Watch the Throne”.

Rihanna got the nod in the categories of “Pop or Rock” album for “Loud” and “Favorite Female Artiste Soul/R&B”. She will compete inRihanna the album category with Adele (“21”) and Lady Gaga (“Born This Way”) and against Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland for female artiste. In the best “Soul/R&B Album” category she will compete against ex-boyfriend Chris Brown’s “F.A.M.E.” and Beyoncé’s “4”.
