In a letter to Clarke, organizers wrote "the award reflects our appreciation for your dedicated years of humanitarian service. As a fellow humanitarian, your ambition, intelligence, and accomplishments compliment precisely the stellar community of this year's recipients and make you highly deserving of the Women of Excellence Award."
The Lions United Sports Club - a non for profit organization based in Hempstead, NY - comprises Jamaicans in the Diaspora who are committed and passionate about giving back to their homeland. Members regularly travelled to Jamaica on Goodwill Missions where they conduct community health fairs, visited infirmaries, schools and engage in charitable football games.
"As women, especially in today's climate, I think it is so important that we celebrate one another, not just for 1 day or 1 month but continually" Clarke told INL.
"I chose to begin the Irie Butterfly Foundation to be apart of the change and the celebration I would like to see in our community and beyond and my belief is that our youth today will bring about this change, hence our Irie Kids Summer program which is rooted in educating, entertaining and inspiring our youth through Caribbean culture" she noted.
