Within days of the creation of the American Red Cross LGBT Haiti Relief Fund, a Red Cross representative stated the fund has already raised more money than many of the huge corporate donors. This was accomplished by significant outreach efforts to the LGBT community via donors and activists along with a massive email campaign to the members of three LGBT cruise companies, Olivia, Atlantis and RSVP. Within a week, the community has raised over $150,000 for the fund.
ImageMiami Dade College (MDC) baseball coach Steve Hertz has been carrying the torch for MDC’s storied baseball program for 26 years. He has continued the rich tradition of baseball excellence that was started in 1961 with legendary MDC coaches Demie Mainieri and Charlie Greene. In June 2010, Hertz will retire and pass the torch to his successor.

The first group of interns for the “Phoenix Project” began work on Monday at several Miami-Dade County departments. The project opens the doors for FIU students with disabilities to get practical experience working in departments throughout Miami-Dade County government.
