Sept. 7, 2017: The United Nations yesterday said it will be sending help to the islands in the Caribbean affected by Irma. “Hurricane Irma is an unprecedented threat to the Caribbean. The United Nations is working closely with the CDEMA-led Regional Response Mechanism (RRM) and the affected countries to bring assistance to those most in need. We are saddened by the reports of lives lost, and of people made homeless by this storm,” Stephen O’Malley, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the OECS said Wednesday.

Sept. 1, 2017: Two celebrity daughters of the Caribbean have opened their check books to help the people of Texas as the death toll rose to 35 Thursday and tens of thousands have been rendered homeless. Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj donated US $25 thousand this week based on a social media challenge from comedian and actor Kevin Hart for the people of Houston and the American Red Cross.
