Marcus Garvey 1A son of one Caribbean country’s National Hero has again made a strong plea for the United States to pardon his father for criminal convictions supporters believe were trumped up to silence a massive movement to establish respect and independence for black people. Dr. Julius W. Garvey is appealing to outgoing President Barack Obama to grant a presidential pardon to the late Marcus Mosiah Garvey, the late Jamaican civil rights leader viewed as a champion for people of African descent in the U.S. and around the world starting in the first half of the 20th century.
