On January 14, 2010 The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners voted for the Office of Chairman Dennis C. Moss to donate $25,000 to Food for the Poor and another $25,000 to the Red Cross, Inc. to help Haiti during these difficult times. Commissioner Katy Sorenson joins in by donating $5,000 to the American Red Cross, Inc and another $5,000 to Doctors without Borders. The Chairman appointed Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson to coordinate the Haiti relief efforts on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, (BCC).

The Gleaner Company's Janet Silvera was presented with the prestigious Hector Bernard/Theodore Sealy Award as "Best News Journalist" at the Press Association of Jamaica's (PAJ) National Journalism Awards Ceremony held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel last month.
