Broward County Commissioner Albert C. Jones today announced Torey L. Alston will serve as Chief of Staff for his office beginning March 1, 2010.

"Torey's experience as a state agency director for two programs along with his roots in Broward has prepared him well to lead our office," said County Commissioner Albert Jones. "Torey is a visionary leader and has fresh, innovative ideas and will serve the people of District 9 well."

A seasoned Trinidadian musician in Toronto, Joseph Maharaj, says he and his band of musicians are ready to serve the people of Haiti this weekend when Noasarc and the Caribbean Media Exchange partner to stage a "Haiti Carnival" fund-raising benefit this Sunday, February 28 at the Lula Lounge at 7 p.m. (1585 Dundas St. West) in Toronto.

ImageEmployees of the Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) along with the CAA Board mobilized their own response to the events in Haiti, by starting a donation drive. As part of that effort, the staff was able to send cases of water, medical supplies, alcohol wipes, and other items to aid the people of Haiti in their recovery.
