County Names New Auditor

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Robert "Bob" Melton has been named Broward County Auditor and will assume the position in June 2017.  His appointment was ratified unanimously by the Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, May 9th. Melton comes to Broward County from the Lake County Clerk of Courts where he served as Inspector General, and was formerly Director of Internal Audit.

Robert Bob MeltonMelton has more than 30 years of state and local government experience conducting audits and has made recommendations that have identified millions of dollars in additional revenues or ways to cut costs. He has also investigated potential fraud, waste and abuse and has developed an expertise in public procurement. Melton has served on many boards including Chair of the Florida Audit Forum, Treasurer of the Board of Governors of the Association of Local Government Auditors and served on the International Government Relations Committee of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Prior to joining Lake County Clerk of Courts, Melton spent nine years as Inspector General / Chief Audit Executive at Pinellas County Clerk of Courts where he directed comprehensive audits of operations under the Board of County Commissioners and Clerk of the Circuit Court, including the Clearwater-St. Petersburg Airport.

Melton's previous experience includes City Auditor for the City of Dallas, Director of County Audit for Orange County, Florida and Director of Audits for the State Auditor's office in Jefferson City, Missouri.

He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri.
