Members of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce (JAUSACC) yesterday (Feb. 25) paid tribute to the many cultures inextricably linked to the development of Jamaica, at its second annual Reception in celebration of Black History Month.

The event themed “Voices of Jamaica” was organized by the JAUSACC and partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Kendall/South Dade in recognition of the vision and achievements of Jamaicans and the wider Caribbean Diaspora to the development of their adopted homeland through culture, economic and socio-political contributions.

On April 9, Apollo 13 astronauts Fred Haise, James Lovell and famed NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz will join an elite line-up of astronauts and space icons to commemorate this legendary voyage’s 40th Anniversary during a special celebration hosted by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF). Event-goers will re-live the adventure of NASA’s most “successful failure” mission with a behind-the-scenes journey through the venue where only the crew and few others have been.

Time goes by so quickly, it can be easy to forget important deadlines and even easier to let critical items fall to the nether regions of your to-do list. Whether you get to everything or not, time marches on — so we’d like to share some March reminders with you.

Tax Time is right around the corner. If you haven’t filed your tax return yet, now is the time. But before you begin, you should make sure you have everything you need. For example, if you plan to claim your children or any other dependents on your tax return, you’ll need to have a Social Security number for each individual. If you don’t already have a Social Security number for a dependant, you better get to it right away. Applications and evidence requirements are available online at www.socialsecurity.gov/ssnumber.

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators strongly supports President Barack Obamas commitment to increase funding to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This executive order recognizes the historic role these institutions have played in education and affirms their continued importance in developing tomorrows leaders.
