Miami-Dade County Officials Welcomed the Largest Container Ship to Call at a Florida Port

MIAMI - On December 11th  PortMiami set a new record for the largest container ship to ever call on a Florida port -- the CMA CGM Magellan, a 13,344 TEU vessel.

shiMiami-Dade County officials, including Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and Chairwoman of the Tourism and Ports Committee Rebeca Sosa, welcomed the CMA CGM Magellan.  Mayor Gimenez addressed the media about the County’s commitment to growing the business and the need for continued cargo enhancements at PortMiami, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ feasibility study for the Miami Harbor Safety and Navigational Channel improvements program.

The CMA CGM Magellan arrived in Miami following stops in New York, Norfolk and Savannah.  The vessel will travel through the Panama Canal and after stopping for bunker it will be back on rotation. Qingdao, China is the next official destination after the first of the year.
