ImageTropical Shipping, one of the leading carriers to the Bahamas and the Caribbean, has taken delivery of 525 new refrigerated containers, including 150, 20 foot containers and 375, 40 foot containers.

The new containers arrived at the Port of Palm Beach on March 19, 2010 and they are the first shipment of more than 750 new refrigerated containers purchased by Tropical. The second shipment of refrigerated containers is due for delivery to the Port of Palm Beach in early 2011.

Port Everglades broke its own world record, again, when more than 52,000 cruise guests sailed in and out of Port Everglades on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the start of the spring vacation season. The last world record was set on Saturday, January 3, 2009, when 49,234 passengers sailed in and out of the South Florida cruise port in a single day.
Forty-five small businesses in Commissioner Joe A. Martinez’ district received $2,224 each in grant funding thanks to the annual Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program.  Every year, local business owners are encouraged to submit an application to their Miami-Dade commissioner for a small grant in order to help them grow their business. In late January, 159 applications came through Commissioner Martinez’s office, and a selection committee from the Neighbors and Neighbors Association (NANA) chose the eligible candidates to receive funding.
