The remaining two workshops in a series designed to help Miami-Dade County small and medium-sized enterprises cope with the challenges of international trade are scheduled for April and May.The three-part “2012 Import/Export Workshop Series – Practical Tools for Trade”, which kicked off last month, continues on April 11 with a focus on “Importing Food Products: Complying with FDA and U.S. Customs Rules”. That workshop is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Miami International Airport Hotel, Concourse E, seventh floor conference center. The final workshop, under the theme “Export Compliance for International Trade Professionals”, will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 23 at the same venue.
Many people are confused about what records they need to keep and for how long. They hold onto tax returns, bank records, brokerage statements and other financial information simply because they don’t know if they’ll need it again. Documents get packed in boxes that eventually take over valuable living or storage space. For many professionals, life in a cubicle is a thing of the past. Going into work could very well mean taking a stroll down the hall to your home office or heading to the coffee shop down the street. Employers are even moving past the cube-and-office model, and instead incorporating more common areas and ad-hoc spaces that promote collaboration and flexibility. Today's technology allows employees to jump into a teleconference from anywhere at a moment's notice from wherever they may be, and access work documents from anywhere they can find an Internet connection. Those working from home can be responding to emails and organizing their schedules while those heading into the office might be stuck in traffic.
Port Everglades is embarking on a $54 million renovation project to transform four existing cruise terminals into modern passenger facilities for more than 30 different Carnival Corporation cruise ships as well as cruise ships from other lines.  Cruise Terminals 2, 19, 21 and 26 will begin by the end of April, with completion dates ranging from mid-December 2012 through early June 2013. "Cruise ships are getting larger, so homeports such as Port Everglades must reconfigure and modernize their cruise terminals to accommodate arriving and debarking guests simultaneously to keep ships on schedule," says Port Everglades Chief Executive/Port Director Steven Cernak.
