Members of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council Board and Staff attended the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Gala embracing South Florida's Multicultural Business Community. The black-tie gala was held at Jungle Island's Treetop Ballroom.

This first-ever real-life case study in self-help economics was called The Empowerment Experiment (EE). Their experiment resulted in a landmark study conducted by Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business.

Dec. 1, 2016:Two Caribbean-born women, one who has called the US home since 1992, the other, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands for the last 15 years, and their US-born friend, have come together to launch a daily blog to empower women. Gemma David, Glenda Jack and Stephanie Gates launched GemmaDaily.com, “a virtual destination for presenting all aspects of life’s issues and a platform for an ongoing social project to empower women” on Nov. 30th.
The owner of Island Monkey Market Place, a graduate of the District 8 Small Business Academy initiated and run by Miami-Dade Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava in 2015, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to celebrate its opening. Sheri Colas-Gervais, Vice President of Economic Development and Urban Initiatives at the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, met the CEO Rosalind Malcolm during an academy workshop and began working with the company assisting them with finding a location, providing data and strategic marketing as well as introducing them to business contacts.
